A rebuilt canvas for the Dialogue Builder

We rebuilt the canvas of the LoreHub dialogue editor, the place where you lay out nodes, add options and connect them with links. It now runs on Fabric.js, a mature library for interactive canvases, so we can spend our time on writing tools instead of drawing code.

Your dialogues, nodes and links stay exactly as they were. Nothing needs to be migrated or exported.

What's new

  • Smoother dragging. When you move a node, its buttons and links now move with it in the same frame instead of trailing behind.
  • Many links into one node. Any number of nodes and options can point to the same node, for example several answers that lead back to one line. The yellow marker on the left of a node shows that something links to it.
  • Cleaner deletes. Deleting a node also removes every link going into or out of it, so no dangling connections are left on the canvas.
  • Clearer options and links. A node that links straight to another node can't also have options, so the "add option" button hides while the link exists. Delete the link and the button comes back.
  • Zoom controls. Zoom in and out with the buttons in the bottom-right corner or with the mouse wheel. Click the percentage to go back to 100%.
  • A canvas that fits your screen. The editor resizes with your browser window, and when you open a dialogue it centers on the first node.

How to try it

Open any dialogue in LoreHub to see the new canvas. If something looks off, tell us on Discord or Reddit.
